大洗キャンプ場に人懐こい猫がいました。　There was a friendly cat at Oarai Campground.

今年の3月初めに早春の大洗キャンプ場（茨城県）で1匹の猫に出会いました。

名前は分かりませんが、入場手続きのためキャンプ場の管理事務室入った時に、写真入りで紹介されているのを見ました。

その時は「猫がいるんだ～。」と思ったくらいで、あまり気に留めていませんでしたが、夕食の用意をしている時にその猫がひょっこり現れました。

その猫はとても友好的で人慣れしていました。

毛並みも艶々で健康的な綺麗な猫だったので、野良猫ではないと直ぐに分かり安心しました。

またその様子から、このキャンプ場では幸せに暮らしているのだなと分かりました。

このキャンプ場で飼われている猫だと分かっても、汚れた姿で痩せていたりしたら家に連れて帰りたくなるかも知れません。

ましてやこんなところで野良猫に会ってしまったら、きっと連れて帰ってしまうと思います。

そしてバイクでキャンプに来ていたので、どうやってその野良猫を連れて帰るか？

とか連れて帰ったら妻がなんていうかな？

とか心配事が尽きないと思いますが、このキャンプ場で管理事務所のスタッフやキャンパーに愛されているのが分かったのでホッとした訳です。

私も今年で66歳になるので保護した猫が15年間生きたら、私も80歳を超えてしまうため、保護猫を今受け入れるのは難しいことを良く理解しています。

しかし保護しないことで後悔もしたくないので、悩ましいところです。

In early March this year, I met a cat at Oarai Campground (Ibaraki Prefecture) in early spring.

I don’t know the name, but when I entered the campsite’s management office to check in, I saw it introduced with a photo.

At the time, I just thought, “Oh, there’s a cat,” and didn’t pay much attention to it, but then the cat suddenly appeared while I was preparing dinner.

The cat was very friendly and used to people.

It was a beautiful cat with shiny, healthy fur, so I immediately knew it was not a stray and was relieved.

From the cat’s behavior, I also realized that it was living happily at the campsite.

Even if I knew the cat was being cared for at the campsite, if it was dirty and skinny I might still want to take it home.

If I were to meet a stray cat in a place like this, I would definitely take it home.

And since I came camping by motorcycle, how would I get the stray cat home?

What would my wife say if I brought home a stray cat?

I’m sure there were many worries like these, but I felt relieved when I realized that the cat was loved by the management staff and campers at the campsite.

I will be 66 years old this year, so if the cat I rescue lives for 15 years, I will be over 80 years old, so I understand very well that it would be difficult to take in a rescue cat now.

However, I don’t want to regret not protecting the stray cat, so it’s a difficult decision.
