秋は喘息を再発して以来、順調に回復しているものと信じていました。
しかし秋は大病を患ってしまいました。
ステロイドの治療を再開してから約1カ月程経った頃に、急に嘔吐の回数が増えたり下痢をしたりしました。
そこでステロイドの副作用かなと思い、ステロイドの投与を一時的に停めました。
すると次に嘔吐に血が少し混じったり、緩い血便をするようになったので、再度「とことこ動物病院」で治療を受けました。
腹部エコー検査や触診などで異常がなかったので、血液検査をしたところ異常が見つかりました。
それは白血球の数値が異常に高いという結果でした。
そしてその原因はどうやら腫瘍が体のどこかにあるようです。
そして更に色々検査すれば、腫瘍の場所を特定できるかもしれないと、「とことこ動物病院」の先生に言われました。
しかしこれ以上秋の体が痛くなる検査はやりたくなかったので、腫瘍があることを前提に薬による抗ガン治療を12/18から開始しました。
秋の場合は最も疑われるのは、消化器系のリンパ腫だそうです。
消化器系のリンパ腫についてネットで調べたところ、猫にとってリンパ腫はポピュラーな病気のようです。
また、その後の腹部エコー検査で片方の腎臓が肥大していることが分かったため、腎臓腫瘍かもしれないとも言われました。
ショックな事ばかりを聞かされて落ち着かない毎日ですが、抗ガン治療を続けて様子を見ようと思います。
また直近の課題は、食欲不振です。
この10日間は全くご飯を食べないので強制給仕をしています。
脱水症状があるので、自宅で点滴も始めました。
秋が回復することを信じて、私も妻も頑張りたいと思います。

We had believed that Aki had been steadily recovering ever since her asthma relapsed.
However, she has now been diagnosed with a serious illness.
About a month after restarting steroid treatment, she suddenly began vomiting more frequently and also developed diarrhea.
Thinking it might be a side effect of the steroids, we temporarily stopped giving them to her.
Soon after, she started vomiting small amounts of blood and passing loose stools with traces of blood, so we took her back to Tokotoko Animal Hospital.
Although her abdominal ultrasound and physical examination showed no abnormalities, a blood test revealed something unusual.
Her white blood cell count was extremely high.
The doctor explained that this likely meant there was a tumor somewhere in her body.
They also told us that with further testing, it might be possible to identify the exact location of the tumor.
But we didn’t want to put Aki through any more painful examinations.
So, assuming that a tumor was present, we decided to begin anti-cancer medication on December 18.
In Aki’s case, the most suspected condition is gastrointestinal lymphoma.
When we looked it up online, we learned that lymphoma is actually a common illness in cats.
Later, another abdominal ultrasound showed that one of her kidneys was enlarged, so the doctor also mentioned the possibility of a kidney tumor.
Every day has been filled with shock and worry, but we plan to continue her treatment and watch her condition closely.
Our immediate challenge now is her loss of appetite.
She hasn’t eaten on her own for the past ten days, so we’ve been giving her food through assisted feeding.
Because she is dehydrated, we have also started giving her subcutaneous fluids at home.
