我が家の猫史（ねこし＝猫の歴史）を語る時に、ちび（ちーちゃん）のことは外せません。
以下は、ちーちゃんが最初に家に来た時の様子を、その当時書いたものです。
When we talk about the history of our cats, we cannot miss Chibi(Chi-chan).
The following text was written at that time when Chi-chan first came to my house.
1996年6月12日の出来事です。
今日、仕事から帰って来ると娘の美緒が泣いていた。
どうしたのかと思ってリビングに入ると息子の唯史も泣いていて、膝の上には一匹の小ねこがいた。
これを見て、なんとなく事情が飲み込めた。
要するにねこを飼いたいと言う訳だ。
前の公園に、捨ててあったらしいが、見て見ぬふりもできず、かといって居たところに捨ててこいとも、ましては言えず、とりあえず今夜は家に入れて飼い主を探すことにした。
名前は“ちび”となった。これからどうなることになるのやら。
It happened on June 12, 1996.
Today, when I came back from work, my daughter Mio was crying.
When I entered the living room wondering what happened, my son Tadashi was crying and there was a small cat on his lap.
Seeing this, I somehow swallowed the situation.
In short, they want to keep this kitten.
It seems that it was thrown away in the park in front of me, but I couldn’t pretend to see it, but I couldn’t say that I should return it to the place where the kitten was.
For the time being, I suggested to the children to protect this kitten at home tonight and find an owner for this kitten from tomorrow onwards.
The name of this kitten became “Chibi”.
I wonder what will happen in the future.
そして、1996年6月16日の日記では…
ちびの体重は、270ｇ、身長（尻尾を除く）20㎝、マツモトキヨシへ行ってペット係りの人に聞いたら、生後30～40日と言う事なので5月5日を誕生日とする。
ちびは１日にしてトイレを覚えた知る天才である。
躾をしっかりすれば、立派な猫になる事だろう。
And in the diary on June 16, 1996 …
The chibi weighs 270g, is 20cm tall (excluding the tail), and when I went to a pet shop and asked a pet clerk, it was 30-40 days old.
So Chibi’s birthday was May 5th.
Chibi is a genius who learned the toilet in one day.
If you discipline Chibi well, Chibi will become a good cat.
また、1996年6月21日の日記では…
今日マツモトキヨシに行って、ちびの診察と三種混合(8000円)の注射をして来た。
ちびの健康状態は良好で順調に成長している様だ。
本日体重430g、身長（尻尾を除く）22㎝、元気いっぱいである。
最近家族の一員になったちびは、とてもかわいい。
ねこを飼うなんて初めてだけどなんとかなりそうだ。
Also, in the diary on June 21, 1996 …
Today I took Chibi to a pet shop to see Chibi and inject a DPT vaccine (8000 yen).
Chibi’s health seems to be good and growing steadily.
Today weighs 430g, height (excluding tail) 22cm, and is full of energy.
Chibi, who recently became a member of the family, is very cute.
It’s my first time to have a cat, but it seems to be fun.
そして、1996年6月23日の日記では…
ちびがとても大きくなった様な気がする。
お腹もでんでんで、片手では窮屈になって来た様だ。
やはり１年で30倍だけの事はある。
And in the diary on June 23, 1996 …
I feel like the chibi has grown very large.
Chibi’s stomach is getting bigger and it seems that I can’t hold it with one hand.
自分で23年前に書いた日記ですが、近所のマツモトキヨシに行ったことだけは正直覚えていません。
ましてペット係で三種混合までやるかなと思うところもありますが、日記にうその記載をする意味がないので、自分が覚えていないだけだと思います。
また、妻にも確認しましたが、妻も記憶にないようで、我々いよいよ老夫婦に近づいているようです。
ちーちゃんは脊髄の数が足りないらしく、体が弱いとか大きくなれないとか言われていましたが、10年近く我が家のアイドルとして生きて、お互いに幸せだったと思っています。
また、子供たちも小学校～中学校～高校と反抗期と言われる時期に、ちーちゃんを共に可愛がることにより、ちーちゃんが家族の絆を深めてくれたのだなと、とても感謝しています。
I wrote this diary 23 years ago, but I honestly don’t remember going to a pet shop in my neighborhood.
I don’t think I would even inject the DPT vaccine at a pet store, but I don’t think it makes sense to write a lie in my diary, so I think I probably just don’t remember.
I also confirmed with my wife, but she doesn’t seem to remember, and I think we’re probably approaching an old couple.
Chibi seems to have a shortage of spinal cords.
Chi-chan was said to be weak or unable to grow up, but he lived as an idol at home for nearly 10 years.
I think we were happy with each other.
Also, when the children entered the period of rebellion from elementary school to junior high school to high school, we parents and children loved Chi-chan together, and Chi-chan deepened the family ties.
We are very grateful to Chi-chan.
