駅からの帰り道に野良猫が居そうなアパートの庭が有ります。
僕はこのような場所はできるだけ歩かないようにしています。
また春先などは特に保護が必要な子猫がいる可能性が高いので、できるだけ音も聞かないようにして歩いています。
保護が必要な猫に出会う度に、家に連れてきたら多頭崩壊してしまいます。
可哀想な仔猫を全部救えないのは、十分理解しています。ところが昨日、その場所で1匹の茶トラの子猫に遭いました。
いつものようにその庭に隣接する歩道を歩いていると、何かいつもと違う違和感を感じました。
そしてフェンスの中に物影がチラチラ見えました。
僕は胸騒ぎがしました。このまま歩きを止めずに帰るか、確認するか・・・
しかし僕の足は自然に止まり、その庭を見ました。
するとそこに茶トラの子猫が、僕と並走するように庭の中を歩いていたようです。
ついに出会ってしまいました。
そしてその茶トラの子猫は、僕の顔を見た瞬間小走りに歩き出し、そのアパートの駐車場に止まっている１台の車の下に隠れてしまいました。
ここまでくるともうそのまま放置して帰ることはできません。
こんな時は後で後悔しないように保護することにしています。
もう直ぐ夕方の7時で暗くなってきました。
子猫がバス通りに飛び出して車に引かれたら大変なので、応援を呼ぶことにしました。
幸い家も近いのでママ（妻）と娘に電話しました。僕の力強い味方です。
夕飯で忙しい時間帯ですが、ママ（妻）が来てくれることになりました。
ママ（妻）が来るまでの間に、茶トラの子猫が道路に飛び出さないように注意していたのですが、その子猫は寝ているかのように、じっとしていました。
今までの経験から、野良の子猫は体力が落ちているため保護する時は、素直に着いてくると思っていました。
ママ（妻）がいつもの保護猫用のゲージを持ってきてくれたので、餌をおとりにして保護しようとしたのですが、急に起き上がって、車の下を巧みに移動して、庭の中の茂みが深い方に逃げてしまいました。
すんなり保護できるかと思いましたが、少し唖然としてしまいました。
そしてもう少し慎重に作戦を練って保護すれば良かったなと、落ち込んでしまいました。
こんな心残りのある保護作戦は初めてですが、きっと飼い主のもとに帰って行ったのだなと思うことにしています。

When I was walking along the sidewalk adjacent to the garden as usual, I felt something strange.
And a small shadow flickering in the fence.
I was upset. Whether to return without stopping walking as it is, to confirm …
But my feet naturally stopped and looked at the garden.
Then, it looks like a brown striped kitten was walking in the garden in parallel with me.
I finally met a kitten.
The brown striped kitten walked out the moment I saw my face, and hid under a car parked in the parking lot of the apartment.
I cannot leave the kitten as it is and go home.
At all times, I try to protect the kitten so I won’t regret it later.
It was getting dark soon at 7 o’clock in the evening.
If a kitten came out on the bus street and got into a traffic accident, it would be irretrievable, so I decided to call for support.
Fortunately my house is near, so I called my wife and daughter.
They are my strong ally.
Although she was busy with dinner, my wife came to help me.
I was careful not to let the brown striped kitten get on the road before my wife came.
But the kitten stayed still, as if sleeping.
In my experience so far, I thought that stray kittens would be obedient when they were protected because they were weak.
My wife brought me the usual protective cat gauge, so I tried to protect it by bait.
The kitten suddenly got up and cleverly moved under the car, escaping to a deep bush in the garden.
I thought it would be easy to protect, but I was a little stunned.
And I was depressed, thinking that it would have been better to protect it with a more careful method.
It’s the first time I’ve had such regrettable protection, but we think that the kitten must have returned to its owner.
